Clermont Joins America250 Celebration
CLERMONT, FLA. (June 12, 2026) – New Florida Media invites the Clermont community to join the nation’s celebration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence.
Jennifer Sargeant and Doris Bloodsworth, co-founders of New Florida Media, are joining Alison Strange, a Clermont sports entrepreneur and descendant of a member of the Massachusetts Bay Colony, in encouraging South Lake residents to become involved through a variety of experiences suggested by America250 at the national, state and local levels.
America250 is a nonpartisan, nationwide initiative co-chaired by Former President Barack Obama and Former President George Bush along with First Ladies Michelle Obama and Laura Bush. It is supported by a bipartisan caucus of 350 members – the largest in U.S. history.
The initiative encourages Americans to celebrate the importance of the Declaration of Independence by connecting with neighbors at block parties, volunteering in their communities and sharing their own stories.
The State is embracing America250 with several programs, including encouraging citizens to take a road trip that includes visiting Lake Louisa State Park in Clermont. Lake County has historical displays and planted a liberty tree.
Lake-Sumter State College and Lake County Public Schools are embracing America250, with some Clermont students participating through an art and essay contest that can lead to a scholarship. Many cities in Lake County and across Central Florida have activities geared toward America250.
The Clermont Historical Society is sponsoring a program titled “Little Known Facts about the Declaration of Independence” on July 4 at 2:30 p.m. Attendees will receive a free copy of the famous document.
Clermont Main Street is participating with a We the People Flag Walk through June 30. For details, go to ClermontDowntown.com.
